ARTIST STATEMENT
Creating is essential to me – it completes my life. I find great joy in exploring the “what if” aspect of combining various medium in unexpected ways. No longer bound by traditional designs and applications, my work has evolved from representational “just the facts, Ma'am” to a free-flowing abstract style.
There is never-ending amazement for me as I free-form wire wrapped around a fused-glass dichroic pendant. This “living,” wearable art morphs into many colors as it absorbs and reflects the surrounding colors the glass encounters.
The vibrant colors of dichroic glass coupled with the unrestrained blending of acrylic on canvas and polymer clay provides me with limitless resources to inspire my designs. My work begins with a concept, but always evolves into a specific destiny as the merging of media unfolds before me.

Rene' Palmer Armstrong's artworks have been showcased in galleries in multiple states, and can be found in both commercial and private collections. Since April 2014, she has won 34 awards in 20 competitions.
Her love of art has been a life-long fascination. She took a few lessons in oil painting in 1974 and she knew she was hooked. Additionally, she worked in glass back in the late 70s, owning a stained-glass company called Slippery When Wet. She immediately fell in love with glass and found working in glass to be very fulfilling, successful enough to even produce a few commissioned commercial pieces. However, life got in the way, and her painting and glass works were placed aside.
Upon retiring, she decided to try her hand in fused glass. Jewelry designs swirled around her head and fanciful creations were executed. Paint brushes began to call her, and in 2011 she once again started to paint - this time with acrylics. Although unable to manipulate them like oils, Rene' loved the fast drying time and the ability to paint like the wind!
She had always painted traditional landscapes, but abstracts had also been of interest. With caution thrown to the wind, she plunged right into a pool of paint colors and WOW, what a ride! She discovered that she loved Art Deco designs and began moving these structured shapes into various angles, throwing a little splash of color onto the canvas. Some might say it was a mess, but to her it was magic in the form of color.

In March of 2014, Rene' started to combine her love of fused glass and the painted canvas into one piece of work. Being captivated by this new form of expression, her CANVAS & GLASS series was born. July 2018 marked the beginning of a collaboration with artisan Mike Duhan and his amazing wood carvings into what has been coined as "DECO-WESTERN."
